Not all that long ago the Oklahoma Democratic Party held a majority statewide in voter registration.  The latest high water mark for the Party in the Sooner State was achieved in 2006 when the voters elected or reelected Democrats to eight of nine state offices including Governor.  The Democrats then also held a slim majority in the State Senate.  Beginning in 2010 with the Tea Party/anti-Obama backlash, over a thousand legislative seats at the federal and state levels throughout the nation were lost over the next six years.  Oklahoma Democrats most certainly lost their fair share of that total of some 910 state legislative seats nationwide to GOP gains.  It was 2010 that GOP wins at the polls gave Oklahoma Republicans control of both chambers of the legislature,...

Reeling under the scourge of insurance profiteering

A few years ago during a heated online exchange on a political discussion board, a rightwing Tea Party activist exuding a maximum degree of bravado made it clear to me that I along with everyone else of my ilk and even his was NOT, repeat NOT entitled to an income!  I replied to the guy “Okay” and he proceeded to excoriate his perceived tyranny of mandating everyone buy their own health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, the passage of which was pending in the Congress.  I thought about that specific assertion regarding income and entitlement and after mulling it over a bit I actually found myself in agreement.  There is nothing in the Constitution, U.S. or state, that directly entitles any citizen to a set level of compensation for goods or...
